Medical student fellowship opportunities with Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

AACAP is pleased to offer two fellowship programs for medical students interested in child and adolescent psychiatry. The awards listed below have an application deadline of February 15, 2012. Please check the AACAP website for a complete listing of award opportunities.

Apply for Medical Student Senior Elective in HIV Psychiatry! Deadline: March 31, 2012

The American Psychiatric Association established this program in 2004, to provide an opportunity for 4th year minority medical students to participate in a one-month clinical or research elective in HIV psychiatry. 

With improvements in HIV drug therapy, there is a burgeoning demand to treat the mental health needs of those living longer with the disease.  People with HIV have a higher incidence of mental health problems than the general population and, conversely, people with serious mental illness are more at risk for contracting HIV.

The AJP Residents’ Journal accepts manuscripts authored by medical students, resident physicians, and fellows (manuscripts authored by members of faculty cannot be accepted; faculty co-authors are removed and placed at the end of articles in an acknowledgment).

This companion to the Green Journal is a web-based publication that is edited and written by residents and fellows for residents and fellows.  It appears each month by free email subscription and on the American Journal of Psychiatry website http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org

Discover the Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists (AGLP)

The Association of Gay and Lesbian Psychiatrists (AGLP) is reaching out to medical students through PsychSIGN to raise awareness of their group and to encourage students to become members.  Please see the attached document about ways to get involved with AGLP.  If you do join, you will get a free subscription to the Journal of Gay & Lesbian Mental Health.  

AGLP holds their annual meeting along with the APA Annual Meeting, so they will be in Philadelphia with us in May.  AGLP will also be working with PsychSIGN this year to provide some support for our National Conference in May.
